Mahane Yehuda Market: Week 4 / Day 27 / Feb 6

Jerusalem, Israel: I took things pretty easy most of the day today. However, I did get out and explore again the Mahane Yehuda market located just a short walk from where I am staying. Similar to the markets I had visited in Amman and Marrakech, the variety of goods was impressive. The chaos level was a bit less, but still different than anything you would see at home.

I stopped for a brief lunch at one of the many bars and restaurants in the market.

The abomination on the left is a Franziskaner wheat beer served in a Guinness glass. Following lunch I continued walking through the market looking at the various vendors and their wares.

As I had done for the last couple of days, I stopped by a bakery in one of the market stalls to pick up some bread for the evening and tomorrow morning’s breakfast.

After that I headed back to the apartment for a nap before heading out to watch the Super Clásico at the same bar where I watched the Super Bowl. For those of you not familiar with it, El Clásico is the semi-annual ritual humiliation of Real Madrid by FC Barcelona. Typically these matches / degradations occur during the La Liga season. However, these teams will also meet on occasion in Champions League or the Copa del Rey. Today’s match was part of the semi-finals for the Copa del Rey. The semi-final is a two match series at Barcelona and Madrid. Shockingly, Madrid were able to salvage a tie (1-1) in the match at Barcelona and I went home after the match quite happy. Hala Madrid!
