Sevilla, Spain: Arrived in Sevilla this morning after a brief stop to change flights in Lisbon (I’ve never been to Portugal before – does this count? We were only there for a couple hours, most of them spent sitting on a runway, but my passport has a Lisbon stamp. I always made fun of people who claimed airport transfers on their state list, so I guess the same logic applies here. Dangit!) Had planned to work the mass transit system into the city, but decided to wimp out and grab an Uber. Cannot say enough about how much new technologies make this all easier. Between Uber to get into the city, Airbnb to reserve our place to stay, Skyroam for portable, unlimited WiFi in over 150 countries, and Google translate for communicating with people, it is all a lot easier than 25 years ago.

We were able to get situated in our new surrounding by noon (see pics below) and go do some grocery shopping.

The best part of this trip, of course, is the middle picture. Unlike most of my work trips, Linda is with me for now and getting to enjoy this as well.

One final note on our trip to the grocery store. I am not saying that we were “ugly” Americans, but we were certainly annoying ones I think. We did not know that we needed to weigh our fruit prior to going to the checkout – I am used to the scale being built into the checkout. No big deal, someone had to restock three apples. However, we also bought two 1.5L bottles of Diet Coke that were held together by a strip of plastic. Linda suggested that the plastic may not hold, I scoffed at her suggestion, and off we went. On the escalator leaving the grocery store (it was in a basement) the tape broke, one of the bottles immediately ruptured upon hitting the escalator steps, and about 1.5L of Diet Coke shot all over our shoes, pants, and the escalator. Yep, as Linda said, “We made quite a splash here.”
