Hong Kong: Today is a travel day for both me and Rob. He is heading back to Boston and I am on to Sydney, Australia, where I will meet my daughter Kelly tomorrow morning.
Rob and I decided to take it easy today and not do any sightseeing. We did make breakfast reservations at the top of one of the towers in Hong Kong. We went to the restaurant at the Ritz-Carlton on the 101st floor of a tower overlooking the harbor.
Well, we were told it was overlooking the harbor – how could we tell. The cloud layer was pretty much impenetrable for our entire time there. The breakfast was great, but the view? Not so much on this day There was a brief moment where the clouds parted for about 15 seconds and we could see the harbor. But otherwise, a wall of white.
After breakfast we headed back to the apartment to relax, clean up / pack, and head for the airport. We made it to the airport with no problem and checked in for our flights. I hung out at Rob’s gate until it was time for him to board and then headed to my flight for Sydney.
Overall, Hong Kong was a lot of fun. The closeness of everything made it great for exploring and the metro system is top notch. However, if you are going to do any amount of walking, be prepared for hills. My friend Koji, who lived here for three years, used to post on Facebook about playing soccer with friends on Saturday mornings. I am officially calling BS on this. I am unconvinced that there is a place in Hong Kong with a large enough plot of level land to have a soccer field. I think he just didn’t want his wife Erin to know that he was sneaking out to the trampoline park without the kids to play by himself. I have no proof, but that is my theory.
