Sevilla, Spain: Having settled in a bit we set out to explore Sevilla. We discovered pretty quickly that they really like their orange trees here. In so many different areas we saw orange trees with lots of fruit just hanging from them. The big mystery to me is why they are not being pulled off the trees and eaten by people or by various rodents that may be hungry. Either way, they are quite pretty as you can see below. We were only able to do a quick scan of the area before heading back for dinner. We did explore the Torre del Oro which provided a nice view of the city. I always tend to forget the strong Moorish / African influence in Spain (especially so in the south), but this city definitely shows it. There will certainly be more in depth exploration tomorrow.

As I said, they love the orange trees.
Torre del Oro and the river it was built to protect. The tower itself was built over centuries beginning in the 1200’s. Interestingly, the top level is not solid stone, but is coated with ochre to appear like stone. The large structure seen from the tower is the Cathedral of Seville.
